I don't care. The sequel no one asked for, but everyone unknowingly wanted. She seems like a really nice companion for him. There have been many films about the Holocaust covering it from many different angles so a new film must be in the excellent category because 'good' isn't good enough and though "The Song Of Names" has some interesting sections it has too much working against it. One of the interesting parts is the name of the film itself and if there really is a song of names and after some research, I have to do more research because I haven't found a definite answer yet! The screenplay by Jeffrey Caine, based on a novel by Norman Lebrecht, goes back and forth from the 1930s to the 1980s with 3 different actors playing the 2 main characters Davidl Rapopart and Martin Simmonds when it could have easily been done chronologically. The story is about a 12-year-old violin protege, Davidl who is brought from Poland to England by his father hoping to find a place for him to escape from the nazis. A music publisher, impressed by the boy's talent, agrees to take him in and after a minor skirmish with the publisher's son who is a couple of years younger, the 2 become fast friends. At the age of 21 Davidl is to give his musical debut completely subsidized by the publisher but never shows up and has disappeared. The film then follows Martin as he looks for his friend and tries to find out why he disappeared. There are many awkward scenes and some that take your breath away such as the one where Martin and his wife walk through Treblinka, a Nazi death camp, where tall, standing stones memorialize the dead. Some in the audience may not be aware that Davidl having a bar mitzvah means he is now a man at 13. The musical moments shine while it is hard to really rate the performances due to the going back and forth through the decades. "The Song Of Names" is a good movie but not quite good enough to attract enough of an audience.

How do you rate this content? : This was one excellent, and fun, module! As a huge Game of Thrones and Song of Ice and Fire fan, I found this module to be a wonderful delving into one of my all-time favorite dark fantasy settings. Playing as a member of the Night's Watch makes sense in a GoT module, since the Wall and its' environs is just ripe for adventures of all kinds, and need not be mired in the tumultuous politics of the southern regions. Which leaves a lot of room for a module creator to flex their creative muscle and make the setting their own. Which is something this module does exceedingly well! It takes the GoT setting and runs with it in a unique direction that is, at the same time, exceptionally faithful to the setting itself, and never once strays far from the source material. I was quite happy to see that, actually, since many Lord of the Rings and Middle Earth modules I've played have strayed massively far from their source, and were: largely forgettable for that reason. This, however, was even a little bit more interesting than the actual, official Game of Thrones game they released on various consoles not too long ago. Plot-wise, there was a LOT to like here, but with so much good about this module why then did I vote and 8 and not a 10 you might wonder. It's because it is an excellent module, to be sure, but has its' share of occasional bugs. In particular, there were moments when certain events did not occur but when I checked the game's scripting I noticed they WERE supposed to. The: bit of drama (I'll not spoil the plot by saying what) in the cave at the end, for instance. Everyone was dead when I got there, inexplicably, and from what I gathered something else was supposed to take place. Also, the final enemy was a bit glitchy to kill but killable regardless. So there wasn't anything game breaking here, just buggy and glitchy, but no worse than many games I've paid money for which were likewise excellent (such as Skyrim, Daggerfall, Ultima IX: Ascension and so forth). All had their issues but were enjoyable anyway. And that's how The Night's Watch is too, so I voted high for it being a fan and all, but also realistically given its' occasional issues. In closing, I thought the module had great presentation! The music wasn't exactly original, but it wasn't copying anything from the TV show either so it was... inspired, the best word would be to use methinks. There were very minimal hak paks used, nothing too fancy, but with this setting you didn't need anything fancy to create a believable environment for the presented adventures. I was happy about something else too regarding this module - it did not shy away from the more mature themes of its' source material. Rather, it got rather brutal in spots, and it made perfect sense for it too given what was going on in the game. And given the brutal nature of northern Westeros! So that concludes my review of this module, ending on a high note. All in all, a very awesome module for any GoT fan! :D.

YouTube. I saw this movie and had the chance to discuss it with Girard at the 2019 FIN Atlantic film festival while covering it for the radio where I work. I honestly did not expect much from this simple fact : the description made of the movie from anything I could read did everything except say what the movie was about. It said "beautiful saga across three decades and four countries" or "story of friendship, family, etc. etc." but no plot description. When this happens, it's usually because you have a weak plot.
The plot though, was not as cheap as the screenwriting. The plot is another ww2 holocaust drama (for some reason, we can't seem to ever make positive movies about jewish accomplishments, etc., only stories about the holocaust. This is an important topic, yes, though it has been treated in the multiple hundreds of films on the topic) with as an "original" twist, a musical background. This isn't bad, and makes up most of the scenes. It leads to the first and only interesting thing in the film - SPOILER - the use of song (the type in jewish liturgy) to memorize the names of people who disappeared during the Shoa. Though the music is beautiful, we aren't treated to any of the real "memory songs. we get a composition for the film score.
The shape of the story solidly bothered me. It's absurdly cheap - we've seen it all time and time again. Someone disappears, later it becomes a sort of "detective story" in order to find the person who went missing, etc. All you get is again "Protagonist goes to some place. Asks questions. Looks for person. Goes to next place, asks questions, etc. Not only is it a cheap and very common way to structure a story nowadays, but the realism of it hangs by a thread.
Nonetheless, the actors are remarkable, aesthetically the film is extremely well done, musically it's very nice. You might be moved by some parts, but overall this film is nothing you're never seen before, and you might not remember it later on. Watch it on Netflix, where it's bound to end up.
